Our History

The American Healthcare Documentation Professionals Group (AHDPG) is a successor organization initially founded as Transcription Relief Services, LLC (TRS) in 1992 by Mary Harvey. Mary originally started TRS to provide medical transcription services to hospitals. In 1999, Mary passed away, and her husband Bob Harvey took over ownership and management of TRS. In 2009 Transcription Relief Services was acquired by Transcend Services, and in April 2010, we were reborn as the American Healthcare Documentation Professionals Group, Inc.

2006
- We launched the TRS Institute, a workforce development effort designed to build “competently” trained medical transcriptionists.
- Licensed by the North Carolina Community College System
- Became a 3M certified transcription partner
2007
- The first employer-owned program to receive approval by the Approval Committee for Certification Programs (ACCP), a joint committee established by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
- Began providing transcription services on the MedQuist DEP platform
2008
- Began providing transcription services on the Arrendale & Associates to A+ platform
2009
- We launched the industry’s first integrated Externship Program for the graduates of our medical transcription training program.
- We implemented the industry’s first Speech Recognition Editing training program in collaboration with AHDI and 3M Corporation.
- Began providing transcription services on the eScription platform
2010
- We rebranded ourselves as the American Healthcare Documentation Professionals Group to align our name more closely with our expanded focus on providing healthcare documentation training, services, and certification to individuals and healthcare organizations across the country.
- We began our Medical Billing and Coding program collaborating with the American Association of Professionals Coders (AAPC).
2011
- We launched the industry’s first online Medical Scribe Training Program, collaborating with our partner, ScribeAmerica.
2014
- We began our Clinical and Medical Administrative Assisting programs in collaboration with Pearson Learning.
2015
- We launched our EKG and Phlebotomy Technician online training program in collaboration with Pearson Learning.
2016
- We launched our Develop Your Scribe Training and Support Programs to help healthcare organizations develop internally managed Certified Medical Scribes Professionals.
2017
- We launched the industry’s most respected National Medical Scribe Certification Exam for individuals and healthcare organizations looking to accentuate their valued employees’ knowledge, commitment, and expertise.
2018
- We launched our Medical Scribe Specialty Training Series to benefit existing medical scribes through enhancing their knowledge on an individual specialty basis and furthering our drive to help healthcare organizations develop their own teams of certified medical scribes. Our first four installments were Cardiology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, and Orthopedics.
2019
- We launched a fifth component for our Medical Scribe Specialty Training Series: Family Practice – Internal Medicine.
2020
- We launched our Medical Office Management Online Training Program, designed to teach the skills required to manage a physician’s practice effectively.
