English Language Proficiency Assessment

The English Language Proficiency Assessment will measure your English Language Skills to help us qualify you for enrollment in our First Step or Medical Interpreter Training and Certification Programs.

Our English Language Proficiency Assessment is a brief online evaluation designed to determine whether your current English reading and comprehension skills are strong enough to participate in our First Step: Haitian Creole, First Step: Portuguese, First Step: Spanish, or Medical Interpreter training and certification programs.

The assessment evaluates several key areas of English competency that are important for success in our courses:

  • General Knowledge & Word Usage– understanding common English words and how they are used in everyday and healthcare-related contexts.
  • Grammar and Vocabulary– recognizing correct grammar structures and appropriate word choice.
  • Listening and Comprehension– accurately understanding spoken English in instructional and workplace scenarios.
  • Reading Comprehension– understanding written passages, questions, and directions.
  • Sentence Structure– identifying and forming clear, correct English sentences.
  • Vocabulary Usage– choosing the right words to express meaning clearly and professionally.

Once submitted, your performance will be reviewed by our admissions team to confirm that you meet the English language expectations for your selected program and to guide you toward enrollment, additional preparation, or alternative options as appropriate.
