MassHire Department of Career Services

MassHire provides training assistance and funding to help eligible job seekers gain the skills needed for in-demand careers, including AHDPG’s online healthcare documentation programs. Through programs such as the Training Opportunities Program (Section 30), WIOA Adult & Dislocated Worker ITA funding, Trade Adjustment Assistance, and National Dislocated Worker Grants, qualified individuals may receive tuition support and/oe extended unemployment benefits while they train.

Who Qualifies for MassHire Funding?

You may be eligible for MassHire-funded training if you:

  • Are an adult (18+) who lives in or previously worked in Massachusetts.

  • Have a valid or recently exhausted unemployment insurance (UI) claim, and are permanently separated or unlikely to obtain suitable employment with your current skills.

  • Meet WIOA Adult/Dislocated Worker criteria such as Dislocated Worker, Displaced Homemaker, or Economically Disadvantaged, as determined by your MassHire Career Counselor.

  • Can demonstrate the aptitude and readiness to successfully complete an approved training program (including required TABE assessments in Reading and/or Math when applicable).

Military veterans and eligible spouses receive priority of service for MassHire programs.

Note: Final eligibility is determined by MassHire and may depend on documentation, timing, and availability of funds.

What Does the MassHire Funding Cover?

Depending on your situation and the specific funding program, MassHire may be able to help you with:

  • Tuition and fees for approved training programs offered by authorized training vendors, including AHDPG’s healthcare documentation courses listed in the MassHire training catalog.

  • Job-skills training that supports reemployment in a high-demand occupation, such as Medical Scribe or related healthcare documentation roles.

  • Extended unemployment insurance benefits while you are enrolled full-time in an approved program under the Training Opportunities Program (Section 30).

The Training Opportunities Program allows eligible UI claimants to:

  • Continue receiving UI benefits while in full-time, agency-approved training and have the work-search requirement waived.

  • Receive up to 26 weeks of extended UI benefits (Retraining Extended Duration/RED benefits) while completing approved training.

Important: MassHire/DUA does not directly pay for all training costs under Section 30. Your Career Counselor can help you explore funding sources such as WIOA, ITA, grants or loans to cover tuition,

How to Get Started with MassHire Funding?

Step 1 – Connect with MassHire

  • If you already have a MassHire counselor, contact them to discuss your interest in AHDPG training and ask about WIOA/Section 30 and other funding options.

  • If you do not yet have a counselor, contact your local MassHire Career Center and ask to speak with a career counselor. Your counselor can help you understand eligibility requirements and determine whether programs such as WIOA, Section 30, or other workforce-training funds may be available.

Step 2 – Confirm Your Eligibility

With your MassHire counselor, you will:

  • Review the WIOA eligibility guidelines for Adult/Dislocated Worker training funds and gather required documentation (proof of age, residency or work in the service area, UI status, income, etc.).

  • Complete any required assessments such as the TABE Reading and/or Math tests to confirm readiness for training.

Step 3 – Choose an AHDPG Program

Once you know you may qualify for funding:

  • Review AHDPG’s healthcare documentation programs and select the one that best fits your career goals (for example, Medical Scribe or related programs).

  • Complete AHDPG’s Student Screening Assessment to confirm fit and readiness for online training.

You and your counselor can also verify that your chosen AHDPG program is listed as an approved course/vendor in the MassHire training catalog.

Choose a Program

Step 4 – Complete Required MassHire Paperwork

With support from your MassHire counselor, you will:

  • Submit a Training Opportunities Program (Section 30) application if you are using UI benefits for training.

  • Complete WIOA ITA paperwork and any other forms required for your specific funding program.

  • Ensure your AHDPG program, start and end dates, and tuition are included correctly on all forms.

Step 5 – Coordinate Your AHDPG Enrollment

Once funding approval is in process or confirmed:

  • Contact AHDPG Admissions at admissions@ahdpg.com or (508) 938-9250 to discuss your MassHire funding timeline and next available start dates.

  • Request an Enrollment Application noting your participation in MassHire funding programs.

  • Complete and sign your Enrollment Application electronically (watch for an email from SignNow) so we can hold your seat and prepare your materials.

Step 6 – Begin Your Training

After your paperwork and funding are in place:

  • AHDPG will order and ship any required books or materials for your program.

  • You will receive a Welcome Letter from your Program Instructor with login details and next steps.

  • Stay in contact with your MassHire counselor throughout training to meet any ongoing requirements for your benefits and funding.
